Annual General Meeting (AGM) - what to expect

The English UK AGM takes place as part of the Members' Conference. As a hybrid event, it will be simultaneously broadcast on Zoom meeting. Whilst the conference is open to all, only the nominated representative (i.e. the primary contact) of a member centre, or their appointed proxy, may vote in the AGM.

During the AGM, members will be asked to vote on matters on the agenda and to ask questions.

The AGM's purpose is to:

  • Allow members to receive/ endorse reports from the trustees on the achievements and work of the association over the year including the annual report, financial accounts and complaint cases heard by the English UK Ombudsman
  • Announce the results of the board of trustees elections if applicable (note there are no board elections in 2023)
  • Consider any nominations for honorary members or fellows
  • Make any changes to the association's rulebook or constitution
  • Discuss other matters that affect the association

Conference motions

Immediately following the AGM, there will be another closed session to allow for the debate of any conference motions. Conference motions are a way for a member centre to put forward a matter of policy or concern they would like the membership to debate. Please see the English UK rules for more information.

Any proposed motions should be sent in writing to the chief executive by Wednesday 10 May. Short-notice motions must be presented at least two hours before the start of the conference and may only receive limited debate.
